Mobile Gaming's Platforming Hero Returns — One Part Mario, One Part Sonic

In 2011 SilverTree Media introduced Cordy, a robotic platforming hero for the smartphone age. Cordy is a tiny robot with a big job. In the first game he was tasked with powering up the aptly-named World 1. In Cordy Sky his journey to World 2 was sidetracked when his ship crash-landed on a sky planet, where his adventure took a vertical turn. Now he’s finally made it to World 2, only to find the planet taken over by the evil Boogaloo and his army of Boogie Bots. It’s not nearly as silly as it sounds. As he journeys across three worlds to free the people of the planet from peril, sometimes Cordy is Nintendo’s Mario. He stomps on the head of his enemies, jumps from platform to platform and puts on specialized suits that grant him special powers—magnetic sliding, jet thrusters and so on. The platforming is wonderfully precise and satisfying, even though the virtual controls consist of two separate buttons for backwards and forwards movement. Other times he’s Sonic the Hedgehog, speeding through corridors propelled by pinball-like obstacles or some of his more locomotive friends. The level design here is pure perfection, flowing perfectly from one point to the next. Our robotic hero is selfless and unassuming—he’s not a robot w88 with an attitude, he’s having a damn good time saving the world.
